Thamo Privacy Policy

Effective 20 October 2026 · Webforge Studio, India

The short version

  • Thamo works on your phone. It starts in light mode, which only knows how long YouTube and Instagram are open. If you choose full detection, it also looks inside YouTube, Instagram and five web browsers to tell lectures apart from Shorts and Reels.
  • It never stores or sends what's on your screen, the videos you watch, or the websites you visit.
  • What leaves your phone: anonymous usage counts and crash reports (you can turn both off), and, if you subscribe, your subscription status.
  • No account, no ads, no advertising ID, and nothing is sold.

Light mode (Usage access)

Thamo starts in light mode, which uses Android's Usage access. With it, Thamo reads when YouTube and Instagram were open and for how long, to show your time in each, to send a notification after a long sitting, and once, after a few days, to ask whether you'd like to see lectures and scrolling apart. It ignores every other app, sees nothing on the screen, and doesn't save this data: Android already keeps it, and Thamo reads it on your phone when needed. You can turn it off in Android's Usage access settings.

Full detection (Accessibility service)

Full detection is optional. It uses Android's Accessibility service, which you switch on yourself after reading an explanation in the app. With it, Thamo:

  • Only looks at YouTube, Instagram and five browsers (Chrome, Samsung Internet, Firefox, Edge and Brave). Android doesn't send it anything from other apps.
  • Recognises the type of screen (a short video, a normal video, a feed or messages) from the screen's layout, and counts swipes between short videos.
  • In YouTube, reads the video's title and channel, so lectures from education channels don't count as scrolling. These are used in memory while you watch and are never saved, except a channel you choose to mark as learning (below).
  • In a browser, reads only the address bar, to recognise youtube.com and instagram.com. Every other address is ignored straight away, and page content is never read.

Thamo acts on its own only to show a reminder card. “Done for now” and “Back to the lecture” happen only after you tap them.

Your answers to reminders (for example “5 more minutes”)30 days

This stays on your phone and isn't backed up to the cloud. Settings › Your data › Delete all my data removes it at any time. Uninstalling Thamo removes everything.

What leaves your phone

  • Usage counts, through Google Firebase Analytics: event names such as “a reminder was shown” or “Study Mode started”, with fixed values like the reminder type or which screen opened the subscription page. Firebase also records an app-instance identifier, your device model, Android version and approximate country. Thamo turns off the advertising ID and ad personalisation.
  • Crash reports, through Google Firebase Crashlytics: where in Thamo's code a crash happened, the device model and Android version.
  • Detection updates, through Google Firebase Remote Config: Thamo downloads updated screen-recognition rules and the education channel list. Nothing about you is uploaded for this beyond what any download needs.
  • Subscriptions, through Google Play and RevenueCat: if you subscribe to Thamo Pro, Google Play handles the payment. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and the purchase receipt, to confirm that you have Pro. We never see your card or payment details.

You can turn off usage counts and crash reports in Settings › Your data › Share anonymous usage counts.

None of these ever include what's on your screen, video titles, channels, website addresses, your contacts, messages or location.

Service providers

Google (Firebase, Google Play) and RevenueCat process the data above on our behalf, under their own privacy policies: Firebase, Google and RevenueCat. Their servers may be outside India.

Who Thamo is for

Thamo is for people aged 18 and over. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and similar laws elsewhere, you can ask what data we hold about you, ask us to correct or erase it, and withdraw consent. Because almost everything stays on your phone, you can do most of this yourself: turn off light mode or full detection, turn off usage counts, delete your data in Settings, or uninstall. For anything else, or to raise a grievance, write to us at the address below.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. If Thamo starts reading anything new on your screen, the app will ask you to agree again before it does.
